The Tupan drums are drums that are hung from the shoulder and
played with a stick on one head and a switch on the other. Tupan drums have
a cylindrical wooden body on which two goat skins or sheep skins are stretched
by means of a hoop and lacing. The tupan is played like the Persian dohol
- a double-headed cylindrical drum for accompanying the sorna (Persian oboe)
to be played in outdoors in regional music of Persia in the festive ceremonies.
These two-sided bass drums are called Davuls in Turkey and Tabl Ballady in
other Arabic countries.
