Riqs / Egyptian Tambourines. The riq (also spelled riqq or rik) is a type of tambourine used as a traditional instrument in Arabic music, traditionally covered with a goat or fish skin head, stretched over a wooden frame, often inlaid with mother of pearl. The head is tightly mounted to create the riq's distinctive high pitched sound. The traditional jingle arrangement is 5 double-rows of jingles in evenly spaced sets.
