Inside Tunable Bodhrans. These bodhrans use a mechanical bolt to tighten or loosen the tension of the skin of the drum, allowing the pitch to be raised or lowered without having to wet or dry the skin. On inside tunable bodhrans, the bolt tuning is hidden on the inside of the frame. The advantage to this type of bodhran is that since you can't see the tuning hardware, your bodhran looks more traditionally Irish. This is because in Ireland, tunable bodhrans are practically nonexistent. The moderate, damp climate found year-round there makes it easier to tune the bodhran by wetting and drying the head.
